GIA

Guaranteed Interest Accounts (GIA)

As an insurance company, Transamerica Life Canada offers guaranteed interest products with features that banks and trust companies can't match.

Guaranteed Interest Accounts provide a valuable service for many investors, especially those seeking capital security.

What is a Guaranteed Interest Account?

A Guaranteed Interest Account (GIA) is issued by an insurance company, but is similar to a Guaranteed Interest Certificate (GIC) offered by banks. A GIA pays a predetermined interest rate on the entire value of the original investment for a set period of time.

The benefits of a GIA

First and foremost, a GIA provides peace of mind - a valuable commodity in this day and age. But it provides much more than that, too.

As the name suggests, a GIA provides guaranteed interest on your investment. Guaranteed interest is an integral part of a well-balanced portfolio for many types of investors. Regardless of market conditions, your investment will continue to provide a steady return, significantly reducing risk.

Transamerica offers a range of GIA options with the following features and benefits:

  • Guaranteed rates of return.
  • Estate planning.
  • Security of principal.
  • Redeemable/non-redeemable option.
  • A wide choice of terms and investment options.
  • Potential creditor protection.
  • Protected by Assuris, up to limits set by Assuris. More information on the coverage can be found at www.assuris.ca.
Harvest

Harvest is a GIA contract that pays the simple interest earned to the owner at monthly, quarterly, semi-annual or annual intervals. Harvest requires a $10,000 minimum deposit and can only be held as a non-registered investment.
